ARTIST SPOTLIGHT with MATTHEW CHASCO

Written by on June 28, 2019

Hacienda Height’s young artist Matthew Chasco is one of those young hard working artists in his region. In today’s age, you don’t find many young men who have accomplished as much as this you man has. Matthew has been able to compose his own music and put his personal spin on it. Matthew has big plans and has been considered by PIXAR for scores written by him.  Look out since Matthew is hitting it big very soon with an LP of his own.

Name: Matthew Chasco

The city you live in Hacienda Heights

Matthew Chasco: I’ve always been around music since I was a kid. From following my father to his jazz rehearsals to singing along to the radio. Wherever I go I was always in tune therefore, I started being productive in high school and made a band. We played some gigs until I went off to university. After that, I started getting into music production which I love mainly because it allows you to go easier on yourself and can help create a bigger vision of your ideas. I write, record, mix, and track all of my songs and help others when I have the chance. I plan to release a full album by the end of this year.

HIS BEGINNING IN MUSIC

Ann Page, RR:  How did you start in music?

Matthew Chasco:  It always playing in my house. Musicians would come over and show my dad their ideas and he’d fine tune it, or they would just jam together and pretty much right there I was hooked.

Ann Page RR:  Who are your influences and why?

Matthew Chasco: I have many influences musically but I’d say my main ones are Bill Withers, The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, and Kendrick Lamar. What they all have in common was that they weren’t afraid to experiment and were open-minded musically and understood the balance to a certain extent.

Ann Page RR:  What is your genre or genres:

Matthew Chasco:  Funk, Jazz, Hip Hop, RnB, Alt Rock (sometimes)

Ann Page RR:  Music wise what is your favorite part, composing, producing, mixing, etc.

Matthew Chasco:  Probably producing. Composing is very healing I would say, but there’s nothing like having an idea in your head then solidifying it externally through the speakers. It makes me feel understood.

HIS FAVORITE TASK AND NEW PROJECTS

Ann Page RR:  What is your favorite part in the studio to do, play, sit behind the computer, etc?

Matthew Chasco:  Mostly playing. Sitting just makes me feel like I’m writing a computer program haha

Ann Page RR:  Are you working on any new projects?

Matthew Chasco:  Yes, I just finished 3 of my songs and I hope to finish my next one within the end of July. If I stay on track I can make a music video for one of them and start thinking about an LP.

Ann Page RR:  Tell us what your accomplishments are, being an Artist, recording music, publishing, have you been invited to compose for anyone, how are your sales?

Matthew Chasco:  People purchase my work (or rather my instrumentals). I like to help people with their music because it teaches me a little about my own and I believe collaboration is very important. I’ve taught people how to play guitar and bass as well as show them how to use a program known as Pro Tools 10. Right now my music is only published on SoundCloud but I hope to extend that to Spotify and Apple Music this summer.
